Well, what can we say about Costa Rica homes for sale?
The reality is this…
Upon immediately arriving in Costa Rica, one does not have to look very far to find some building, property, or houses for sale. In fact, one might even think that the entire country is for sale.
Throughout the late 90′s and early 2000s, the country was amidst a boom of sorts — people were buying up Costa Rica real estate like it was a scarcity or something.
MSNBC ranked the real estate market here as one of the hottest in the world.
Of course this help inflate the overall reality of what was going on but none the less, for the most part it WAS accurate.
Nowadays however, things are different. These days people are looking for Costa Rica homes for sale still but at what has been called, “fire sale prices”. This makes for a buyers market.
Another contributing factor we seen often enough here in Costa Rica are the expats that more in…then move out.
Costa Rica is not for everybody. An unfortunate reality to life here is that many unsuspecting foreigners that move here do not anticipate the cultural differences to life back home in the US, Canada or where ever they may be from.
Things to consider when shopping for Costa Rica homes for sale are:
- The heat. The extreme heat can be a problem especially while many move here wanting beachfront homes without spending any amount of time here first to determine their ability to handle such high heat and humidity 24/7.
- Conveniences are few and far between here. You’d think that a simple run to the grocery store for your favorite Vlasic pickles might not be an issue…you’d better think again. Everything here is special order and now they are even talking about taxing all imported products at 13% which leads me to my next bullet…
- Cost of living is rising on a steady basis here. What was once an extremely affordable and desirable retirement option is now considerably more expensive.
- Language. If you don’t speak the language (Spanish) then you better seriously consider studying it because it will certainly play a large roll in your longevity here.
These are but a few of the things to consider when thinking of shopping for Costa Rica homes for sale.
Something else to consider is your budget…
Prices for homes in Costa Rica can range from $60,000 straight up in to the tens of millions if that’s your style. However for the most of us…we come here for the affordability of them.
Construction costs, although increased over the years, is still quite affordable considering the price of labor being so cheap. It is still safe to assume that you can have a two bedroom home newly built for around $60,000.
Now of course we’re not talking about anything with a garage, pool and all the other fixings.
One notable builder in Costa Rica is a fellow by the name of Brian Bickell.

All the different areas of the country each have their own appeal. So should you be in the market and in the country, it’s best to tour around and see them all before making your ultimate decision at hunting for Costa Rica homes for sale.
